Research interestsFor many tissues in the musculoskeletal system, maintenance and the development of disorders are regulated by mechanical stresses. We are focused on understanding the role of a cell's physical environment on its biological function, from the macro-scale to the nano-scale. In terms of the nano-scale, we are currently examining the influences of collagen fiber orientation and stiffness on intervertebral disc cell morphology and gene expression.
