What is a UMD URC?
The university's Office of the Vice President of Research (VPR) has designated the Maryland NanoCenter a University Research Center (URC) .
The URC program was created in 2006 to encourage the growth of major research centers on campus, providing support for the development of large center proposals and supplemental ongoing support for centers established as identified as URCs. The designation has undergone some revisions and is now part of the Federally Designated Centers and Major Programs Initiative.
Consequently, there is no longer a need to indicate any proposals are "add-ons" to the NanoCenter URC.
The University VPR is contributing significantly to the annual NanoCenter budget, indicating acknowledgement of the NanoCenter's importance to the University of Maryland.

For UMD Faculty and Researchers
If your research falls under the NanoCenter domain, you should indicate so on the Internal Routing Form for Proposals.
Even with the program revisions, it is important for proposals including NanoCenter work to credit the center for auditing and reporting purposes.
