The Citation Laureate recognition was established by Thompson Reuters, and annually recognizes individuals whose scholarly work is among the most highly cited in Physics:

Annually, Thomson Reuters analysts mine scientific literature citation data to identify the researchers whose work is worthy of Nobel recognition for induction into the Hall of Citation Laureates. They are the innovators responsible for the world’s most influential scientific discoveries, with scholarly papers typically ranking in the top 0.1% by citations within their field. Many go on to win the Nobel Prize for their significant contributions toward the advancement of science.

The significance of this recognition cannot be overstated: only about three such highly cited works are recognized each year, across the entire field of Physics.  The list of prior Thompson Reuters Laureates includes 39 individuals who have subsequently been awarded a Nobel Prize.

Please join us in congratulating them on this marvelous achievement! Our Institute, in particular (which in 1990 was called "Laboratory for Plasma Research") owes a great debt to Ott, York and Grebogi for their pioneering work, which continues to be recognized to this date.
