A. James Clark School of Engineering Interim Dean Robert M. Briber sent the following email to the Clark School community today:
Clark School Community,
We have all seen, read about and been shocked and appalled by the recent rise in insults, bigotry and violence against our Asian American communities. Anti-Asian behavior — indeed bigotry and violence of any sort — has no place in our college or among our community.
Engineering is an international profession. Solutions to the great challenges facing society will only arise from diverse teams working together across international boundaries. Advances in technology and in our battle against the coronavirus pandemic remind us the world is fundamentally and inextricably interconnected. It is this interconnectedness that provides the underlying ethical and moral guidance to us as engineers to help to build a more just world.
Please know and make use of the campus resources outlined in the recent messages from President Pines and Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion, Georgina Dodge, and Vice President for Student Affairs, Patty Perillo. We also encourage you to read and share a recent Q&A with Dr. Janelle Wong and consider attending some upcoming community events.
Our community stands united with our Asian, Asian-American and Pacific Islanders colleagues.
Sincerely,
Robert Briber, Interim Dean, A. James Clark School of Engineering
