FPE Special Seminar: Take Your Seat at the Table (Alwin Kelly, '01, Jensen Hughes) Speaker: Alwin A. Kelly (FPE M.S. '01, B.S. '99), Senior Director, Jensen Hughes Title: Take Your Seat at the Table: The Need and Opportunity for Diverse Leaders in Fire Safety Abstract: TBA Biography: Alwin Kelly is a Senior Director at Jensen Hughes. He has over 20 years of diverse fire protection engineering and process safety experience, including conducting fire hazard analyses, process hazard analyses and dust hazard analyses; directing live fire tests; interpreting, revising and developing naval fire doctrine; preparation of compliance strategies for storage and use of flammable and combustible liquids, and other hazardous materials; development of alternate compliance means for existing facilities and unique operations; and performing fire protection system design, review and commissioning. Alwin is a member of multiple NFPA technical committees responsible for NFPA 30, NFPA 30A, and NFPA 400. He is the current chair of the NFPA 30 technical committee for Fundamentals. Alwin graduated from the University of Maryland with Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Fire Protection Engineering, and is a registered fire protection engineer in the state of Maryland. His current role includes leading a multi-discipline team of chemical, environmental, fire protection, mechanical, and mining engineers and consultants. A large part of Alwin’s career satisfaction has come from serving in volunteer roles that add value, including the UM FPE Curriculum Advisory Committee (CAC), the Jensen Hughes CEO Council (advisory group to the CEO), and the Jensen Hughes task group that developed the company’s Career Framework Guidelines to help staff at all levels see the opportunities available for career development within the company.
